Created by Sophia Gould, a Veteran, snowboard and ski instructor, and mom to a baby snowboarder, Rok’n Crew Snowboards breaks out of the expected with a story that’s innovative, imaginative, and inclusive. The book blends extreme sports with early literacy, inspiring young readers to embrace adventure, imagination, and resilience — on and off the slopes.

“Growing up in a big, busy, low-income household, snowboarding felt out of reach,” says Gould. “It was community programs that changed my life. Now, I want to give back by inspiring every child, no matter their background, to see themselves in the mountains and in the stories they read.”

The story follows Rok, a spirited child ready for any adventure, and their crew of woodland friends as they explore the Canadian Rockies. When challenges arise, they work together — sometimes with a touch of mountain magic from Sooh, a wise spirit bear who appears to help them find courage and creativity.

Vibrant 3D illustrations created by a Calgary artist, Sarah Shaneman, bring the Rockies to life, celebrating Canadian wildlife, community, and the thrill of outdoor play. Each page bursts with colour, motion, and heart — a reflection of Rocky Tales’ mission to create “Wild Tales for Wild Hearts.”
